Food & Water Journal
The Journal
is an inspirational touchstone for readers and activists representing
a myriad of causes and concerns. While always reserving plenty
of space for the horrific issues and transgressions of the day,
the Journal also seeks to provide a radical underlying
philosophy to the various movements seeking substantive change.
With regular essays from leading contemporaries like Wendell Berry,
Thomas Berry, David Ehrenfeld, Hayden Carruth and Gary Snyder
we're able to go much further than the traditional movement publications
that have perfected the art of screaming fire in a crowded theatre
without any real concern for how the people will get out.
And now for some good news: No complaints here, not when my day began by waking in the woods of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Feeling claustrophobic by the "big city" of Montpelier, the family spontaneously found ourselves packing for a couple of nights soaking up the delightful air, water, and tranquility that can be found at the "Wally Preserve," a 117-acre Mecca of peace that dog food purchase...

The Journal
also features some of the nations most distinguished , cutting-edge
visual artists, photographers and poets. This is another aspect
of Food & Water Journal that distinguishes it from
other movement publications. There is no doubt that the issues
we choose to campaign against are ugly. Industrial farming is
ugly. |
The damage from irradiation, pesticides and genetic
engineering is ugly. Corporate monopolization of our culture is ugly.
But, amidst all of this doom and gloom we must still appreciate that
which is beautiful and inspires hope. In the past the Journal has
featured artwork and poetry by such luminaries as Denise Levertov,
Rudy Burckhardt, Tu Fu, Ben Shahn, Nanao Sakaki and Galen Garwood.
We always revisit the classics with excerpts from the works of Tolstoy,
Emerson and Marx. It is an eclectic mix of education, inspiration,
art and activism that has created legions of addicted readers.
